Now here’s something I’ve been after for many many years. This is actual video footage inside Carolina Circle Mall. This was recorded on Sunday, May 5th, 1996. Hopefully we can find more footage from the mall like this someday.
Also, here’s the newspaper ad that advertised this very same show!
I was going through some of the YouTube videos I’ve uploaded over the years and I came across this camera video of Carolina Circle Mall I made back in April 2005. I redubbed the audio in 2010 because the audio on the original tape had gone bad. But it’s very cool to see this old footage of the mall only two months before it began demolition.
At the 23:12 mark in this 6:00 newscast from November 16, 1989, WFMY News 2 does a man on the street interview with various people at the Carolina Circle Mall food court.
At this time, the food court was roughly one year old. Apparently, not many restaurants had open yet, such as Circle Cafe & Deli and Gatto Pizza. At the 23:34 mark, a coming soon sign for Monk's Cheesesteaks can be seen. Monk's would open in June 1990, about 8 months after this video was shot. I'm guessing a lot of the restaurants didn't open until around 1990 or 1991. The Carousel was also here at this time, but it is not shown in this video.
I'm having trouble identifying the store that's in the background at the 23:58 mark. I'm thinking it might be Fluf 'N Stuff, but I'm not sure.
Tonight, here at Carolina Circle City and my main YouTube channel, I will be posting a very special Christmas present, related to Carolina Circle Mall. It's nothing too fancy, but it's a special memory filled video-slideshow. Come back tonight for the presentation.
I know the description of the video says it was at Four Seasons Mall, but I actually think this was at Carolina Circle Mall instead. Notice the design of the Belk entrance at the beginning of the first video and the Shoney's sign? Very cool.
In June of 1988, Carolina Circle Mall completed its first and only renovation which included a new color scheme, emblem, and Carousel.
Sit back and relax as you enjoy these wonderful pictures of Carolina Circle Mall during this era.
Unfortunately, as you will notice, most of the pictures are from after the mall closed. This is because I have a lot more of these pictures than I do of when the mall was open. Sorry.
Fans of The Price is Right will notice that the music played during the video is the song that played during the pricing game "Pick-A-Pair" in the 1980s.
Credit to everyone who provided me with these pictures.
As you may already know, I have owned an authentic Carolina Circle Mall restroom sign for almost two years now.
Today, I decided to get out my video camera and videotape it for everyone on the Internet to see.
Please appreciate this video. It took me 3 hours to get it on the computer due to a bombardment of error messages and the infamous Blue Screen of Death.
From the same guy who brought you the Alice in Wonderland video comes this really cool video of Carolina Circle Mall's Ice Chalet Halloween Party in 1976, when the mall was only 2 months old.
Also notice the mall's Cheshire Cat emblem on the wall at the beginning of the video.
Back in January, a nice person sent me a DVD with old films that he took of Carolina Circle Mall's Ice Chalet in the '70s. Apparently, he is now in the process of uploading the same videos to YouTube.
This particular video is a good example of how Carolina Circle Mall would use Alice in Wonderland for their shows and ads during its early Ice Rink Era years.
When I first watched these videos, I had to keep reminding myself that that was indeed Carolina Circle Mall. The reason is because I'm so used to the Carousel Era that whenever I see anything pretaining to the Ice Rink Era, it seems foreign to me. In a good way though!
Please enjoy this groovy trip back to the '70s. I'll add more if he puts the other videos on YouTube.
I believe it's time to make a sequal to that video, seeing that I've got new pictures and some pictures in the existing video have been enhanced.
What I need are some ideas. Feel free to tell me what you would like to see. Remember, YouTube is notorious for deleting videos with copyrighted content.
