Carousel Early '90s 2

Here is a really good shot of the Carousel sometime in the early ‘90s. Really brings back memories.

Here’s an interesting shot of the Carousel taken from Monk’s, presumably taken in the early morning hours since it’s not running. Photo was taken sometime in the early ‘90s.

Here is another shot of the food court, this time the back portion sometime around January 1991. The Tilt Arcade can be seen in the corner.

Gatto Pizza and Circle Café & Deli had not opened yet at this time. If anyone knows when these two places opened, particularly Circle Café & Deli, please let me know. I am quite curious.

Not sure who these folks are, but this is a picture of the mall’s food court and Carousel in I believe January 1991. Amazing how well the mall would light up at nighttime.

Racecar 1995

This is a racecar display outside the mall’s food court sometime in 1995, possibly February. Part of the Carousel can be seen in the background. If only I could get a close-up shot of the food court when it was still open.

Monk’s Under Construction 1989

From that newscast I posted earlier, here are a couple of screenshots of the outside of Monk’s Cheesesteaks from November 16, 1989 when it was under construction. It would open in June 1990.Monk's Under Construction 1989 1Monk's Under Construction 1989 2

WFMY News 2 1989 Newscast at Carolina Circle Mall

At the 23:12 mark in this 6:00 newscast from November 16, 1989, WFMY News 2 does a man on the street interview with various people at the Carolina Circle Mall food court.

At this time, the food court was roughly one year old. Apparently, not many restaurants had open yet, such as Circle Cafe & Deli and Gatto Pizza. At the 23:34 mark, a coming soon sign for Monk's Cheesesteaks can be seen. Monk's would open in June 1990, about 8 months after this video was shot. I'm guessing a lot of the restaurants didn't open until around 1990 or 1991. The Carousel was also here at this time, but it is not shown in this video.

I'm having trouble identifying the store that's in the background at the 23:58 mark. I'm thinking it might be Fluf 'N Stuff, but I'm not sure.

The restaurant in the center is Gatto Pizza, where for some strange reason if their sign was never lit up, I’d go nuts as a kid. Cut off on the right of the picture is my all time favorite restaurant at the mall, Circle Café & Deli (became Subs & Spuds in 1995).

Carousel Court 1996

Ah yes, I had many a good time at the Carolina Circle Mall food court. Two classic restaurants can be seen in this picture. On the far right is Mr. Wok Chinese Restaurant (was Tater Patch until about 1994) and the famous Monk’s Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers.

Photo taken in July 1996.
