Random Picture for Wednesday, January 28, 2009

This picture of the mall's dead interior taken in 2004 really does a great job at showing the simple yet complex architectural design Carolina Circle Mall had.

I especially like how the second floor was built. As you can see in this picture, the area over the Ice Chalet/Carousel Court area was designed in a circle "hint hint". This allowed for extra space for several stores such as Waldenbooks on the far right.

I also like the skylights that were used in the design.

I see hexagons and octagons rather than circles, but I get where you're going with this.

The skylights kind of remind me of Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, which was built around the same time CCM closed. Makes you think, doesn't it? Of course, I assume CCM never instituted any unfair restrictions on people under 18, am I right?
