Well, the '90s are my all time favorite decade. So many things came out of that decade. And one of the greatest things that came out of the '90s was Carolina Circle Mall. Let's take a look at what Carolina Circle Mall was like in the '90s.
Carolina Circle Mall entered the '90s in 1990 with its new 2 year old renovation along with the carousel. 1990 was also the year when the mall's Ivey's was reborn as Dillard's. I also think 1990 was the year when I first went to Carolina Circle Mall. On a side note, I believe Carolina Circle Mall was the first mall I ever went to.
The mall basically did pretty good in the '90s. The mall reached its peak around late 1995. 1995 was the year I began hearing rumors of its demise. Being 5 or 6 years old, I denied the rumors. Nothing was going to happen to my mall.
In late 1996 or 1997, the mall removed the carousel. I was furious. One day my parents wanted to go to Carolina Circle. I locked myself in the bathroom to keep myself from going. I believe that was the only time I ever hated the mall. I healed from that wound pretty quick.
The late '90s was the worst time for the mall in the '90s. Belk and Dillard's finally left leaving Montgomery Ward as the only anchor.
From 1990 to about 1996, Carolina Circle Mall was in its some of its best years. And I'm glad I was there to experience it.

The shift from Ivey's to Dillard's really killed the Carolina Circle store. Dillard's wouldn't do any improvemnts and the quality of merchandise degraded badly.
